In this short post, Greek scholar Daniel Streett sorts out the confusion around the English word “hell.” Behind that English word we can find Sheol (a Hebrew word), Hades (a Greek word), Gehenna (a Greek word), and others. Most people aren’t aware of the distinctions in these terms.
Even though I’m not a Greek scholar, I was taught to use a concordance. Therefore, I could make the same point when I wrote The Biblical Case for Everyone Going to Heaven (see especially Appendix I – Four Key Words).
